My wife and I used Staybridge Suites on a bicycle tour across New York State's Erie Canal towpath and had a wonderful time in Rochester. Although the hotel seems to be in a sketchy neighborhood, it's along the Genesee River bike path that connects to the Erie Canal path less than a mile away. You can literally ride your bike from the Erie Canal path to the hotel-we did, twice!. The staff was great, especially when we chose to extend our stay by another day. They were all genuinely interested in talking with us, and made everything easy for us. We used one of their suites, and had plenty of room for ourselves and our two bikes. Even the elevators are large enough to handle two bikes, two people, and other interested hotel residents at the same time. On our arrival evening, we found the hotel hosting a charity walk/run that they were sponsoring. They were still able to get us booked into our rooms with no muss or fuss, despite the presence of at least a hundred plus people participating in the charity event. That impressed us-not the smooth book-in which we expected, but that a hotel would actually sponsor and coordinate an event. We were also impressed with some of the little stuff-good breakfasts, free washer/dryer, and so on. So, we had a great time and would plan to use this hotel again for any travel to Rochester we make in the future.

I often stay in "extended stay" hotels even when traveling for a short time because they typically offer more space at a lower price - even though you usually forego some daily service. And many of those places have a, shall we say, "lived in" quality - tolerable when you're on a budget. The Staybridge, however, far exceeded my expectations - the building is only about 1 year old (as of this writing in Fall 2009) so everything is wonderfully new, clean and in perfect working order. Delightful foyer with a fireplace and plenty of comfy chairs; business suite (computers w/printers); small fitness room and conference rooms downstairs. The 1BR suite we had was charming and cozy with a nice sitting room out front with a large flat-panel TV. The BR was through a pair of french doors. We were a couple staying the weekend and had more than enough space to spread out and be comfortable. You couldn't ask for more convenience to U of Roch - a 5 minute walk over the footbridge and you're on the campus. Miles of great paved trails all up and down the river and canal at your disposal too - great for walking, running or biking. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is an older, more established residential area - quite possibly some student housing in there, as things got a bit rowdy on Saturday evening. Hot breakfast every day is included, but they quit restocking it about 20 minutes before the end time (10 am) so get down early for the best selection. Plenty of coffee throughout the day. Though this was a personal trip, if I could find this kind of quality for the price in my business travels, I'd be happy!

It was truly a home away from home. I travel a lot so to have the full size, beautiful kitchen's was great. Many amenities were at the hotel including, a full size breakfast, bussiness center, fitness room, and even free laundry (no problem finding quarters.)
